PB’s Thoughts On Hurricane Gustav, Evacuation, and the Future of New Orleans

Our buddy PB, formerly of The Piss Biscuit just sold his blog and packed up all of his important posessions in an attempt to flee New Orleans, before the devistation of Hurricane Gustav hit.  For those of you that haven’t been following along, Gustav is set to hit the gulf coast late Monday night, or early Tuesday.  I’ve got a video post from out buddy that I’d like to play for all of you here, and I’d encourage you to keep PB and his family in your thoughts or prayers.  It’s downright depressing to think that PB and everyone else from New Orleans just went through this 3 years ago with Katrina, and now will be faced with having to rebuild again, if it’s even possible this time.  It’s sad to think that New Orleans, while not 100% recovered from Katrina, was making great strides in the rebuilding effort.  Now it looks as if that may all be for nothing. This Is What Happens When…

I had to share this, it’s absolutely classic.  My buddy Ben Cope, The Internet Genius recently was called upon to do some install work for a guy who just bought one of my sites.  It’s not unusual, I generally send people to Ben for database imports so that they can get the sites they buy from me up and running, but this time it’s a bit different.

He charged the guy $65, which is reasonable to get a blog up and running after a transfer, and did the work for him.  But the scumbag didn’t pay.  So Ben exacted his revenge in the most classic way possible.  He disabled the blog, and set up a payment link.  All the posts have disappeared, and they won’t be visible until the guy makes a payment.  How classic is that?  Click the picture below for a larger version.

You guys really have to Digg & Stumble this.  It’s some funny stuff! (more…)

Blog Flipping Gone Wild

Hey contestants, I need to know who has a team that they are entering, and who is on said team.  There is a paypal button below, and I’ll be collecting money for the teams.  Remember, each team must pay $25 in order to take part in this, and that money will go into the “pot” for the winners of the contest, minus all applicable Paypal fees.  If we have enough contestants, I might pay the first and second place teams with an 80/20 split.  So, comment below and leave the names and links of the people on your team, and I’ll be updating this post later to include the teams, and their members. I’ll start us off by posting my team here. (more…)

Blog Flipping & The Obvious Parallels To Real Estate Investing

Tue, Aug 26, 2008

Years ago, savvy investors saw huge profit potentials in real estate.  They purchased houses that they believe were undervalued, renovated them, and then sold them for huge profits.  Well, the housing market is down almost nationwide, so maybe it’s time to draw a parallel to blog flipping, and focus on what made real estate investors, very similar to site flippers.

The Neighborhood

Real estate investors were always seeking the worst houses in the best neighborhoods.  As blog flippers, it’s the same thing.  The virtual equivalent of the best neighborhoods would be sites with great domains, and the ugly houses?  Well, we’ve seen more than our fair share of poorly-designed, under developed websites.  The key here is looking for potential amongst any number of qualifications.  Rss readers, content, domain, or monetization opportunity. That’s right.  My buddy Nick, over at Sports Blog is holding a pretty awesome contest that gives you the chance to win some pretty cool stuff just for becoming an Rss subscriber, and leaving some comments.  Doesn’t get much simpler than that right?   But that’s not all.  Nick has an ad deal with the popular online sports gambling site Bet.Us, and he’ll be offering up several $100 credit lines for some free sports betting!  Not bad huh?

Entering the contest couldn’t be much simpler.  And there are several ways to get your name into the proverbial hat!

  • Subscribe via Rss
  • Post about it on your blog
  • Comment on Nick’s blog

Each of those entry methods will get you a certain number of entries into the contest, and the chance for some sweet prizes.  Go check it out!

24 Hour Challenge - Part 2?

Sun, Aug 24, 2008

Well, I’m not quite at the $1,000 for the 24 hour challenge yet, but I’m close enough that I’m starting to feel rather comfortable about my position.  The problem?  Well, it appears that Jim from The Net Fool is exactly what his name implies, and he’s not a very good loser either.  He lost the bet, fair and square, and yet he has this to say about it.

I was actually “challenged” by the owner of SiteFlipU.com, who claimed he could flip 5 blogs in 24 hours for $1,000. I really don’t know why he came at me like he did, as I still believe this is an impossible task and there is no way he actually did it all in 24 hours, but check it out because he will make money regardless.

Well, apparently building 5 sites in plain view of everyone watching wasn’t enough to prove to this guy that it can be done.  I did my part, and there really isn’t much else that I can do but what I did.  Which was post the domains, and let you guys watch as I developed each and every one of them from start to finish in less than 24 hours.  I guess that’s not good enough for Jim, so let’s up the anti. I’ll be updating this blog page and my twitter account randomly throughout the day.  So check back!

The 5 domains are -

http://yogafitnessblog.com

http://rockstaronlinedating.com

http://gogreenweblog.com

Oh, and it’d be super appreciated (since I have limited time) if any of you are actually checking on the domains at random points, can you please update everyone else by leaving a comment?  It’ll keep me from having to do it, as I don’t have a lot of time here!  So, if you see that one is almost ready, or that I’m done with one, or even that the header is installed… let someone know!
