Blog Flipping Gone Wild - The Contest

Mon, Aug 25, 2008

Blog Flipping, Monetization

For those of you that know me well, I’m always coming up with new ideas that can get you guys involved and help to teach you this highly profitable craft.  Well, I’ve got a doozie for you here!  I’m calling this one my Blog Flipping Gone Wild contest, and it’s going to be highly profitable, fun, and extremely educational for all those involved.

Blog Flipping Gone Wild details

Here’s what I propose.  With all the buzz and excitement going on about blog flipping lately, let’s get a friendly (and profitable) contest going.  Here’s what I have up my sleeve.

  • Bloggers can get a team of their own readers together, or join someone else’s team.
  • Each team has 45 days to flip a blog.
  • This must be a communal project, meaning everyone on your team must contribute.
  • The captain of the team has the final say in what happens for your team.
  • Each team is composed of 5 people.  The captain and 4 others.
  • Each team posts a $25 entry fee.  The captain can pony up the cash, or you can split it amongst your team at a reasonable $5 per person.  The only other fees will be a brand new domain, registered not before the contest begins, and hosting.  You can split this cost too if you’d like.
  • The entry fee for all teams goes into a pot for the winner, minus Paypal fees.
  • The highest purchase price wins the contest, but not until you prove that every member of your team got an equal amount.  This keeps people from faking bids, because they’d actually have to pay out the cash to their team.

So what’s the winner get?  Well, besides the respect of everyone around him for successfully running the best team, COLD HARD CASH!!! The losers will have to fork over 10% of the total purchase price of their sale, meaning they get to keep 90% of the purchase price to split amongst themselves.  The winner will take home 10% of everyone’s sale price, AND all of the entry fee’s that the other teams paid to enter.  PLUS, the profit of their successful flip!

Who’s in?  I need to know who will be starting their own team, and which of you want to take part on Team Clark?  Remember, I can only select 5 of you, so I’ll probably select my team randomly.

Deadline for entry is in 5 days, so obviouisly you must be able to get a blog post up on your own blog asking your readers who will take part.  Also, I’d prefer if you linked back to this post so that the rules don’t get lost in translation, and that we don’t all get smacked with duplicate content.  When linking, remember, my preferred anchor text is “Blog Flipping”!!!!

In 5 days, we’ll tally up the entries, collect the entry money, and then move on to figure out when we’ll actually get started.  Anyone out there that feels like challenging themselves, making some money, and learning about how to make a profit while flipping blogs; needs to join!  Remember, even if you lose, you are making 90% of the total of your blog flip!  So EVERYONE will make a profit on this one!  Let’s do it big guys, and see which blogger has the best blog flipping readers!

Let me know what your plans are in the comment field here.  You gonna enter a team?  Join someone else’s?  Try to join mine?

Luis, you can always form your own team. I’m not sure about my team yet. Still working out the kinks on that one. If you want to form your own team, there are 3-4 other people that have already commented looking for a team. Give it a try!

  11. Freddie Says:

    Clark,

This is a great way to follow up on the momentum you built from the Flip contest. And what an hellava idea?

    OUTSTANDING! - Standing and clapping!

    With that said,

I want to be on your team! Am I good?

Please let me know if I am good, because otherwise I need to get on a team. I don’t have a blogging community site, so I would have to jump on someones team.

  12. Piss Biscuit Says:

Ummm… I want to play to. Anyone want a loser on their team? If so, just hit me up. I’ve got random blog skills and a hot fiance if that helps. My blog is having plastic surgery so you’ll have to e-mail me the pain in the ass way:

    info[at]thepissbiscuit.com

    [Reply]

  13. Bryan Clark Says:

Well, the problem I can see already is that you guys need to hook up with others in the comments to form teams. I’m not sure who’s going to be on my team yet, give me a few days. I think I’m going to pick the people that have been around the longest as a way to reward their loyalty. But, I may just scrap that and pick randomly from those of you that are still here and not on a team!

If you are looking for a team to join, it’s probably a smart idea to follow PB’s lead and leave your email address. Remember, you can pick up team members from the comment section here! Use all your resources that are available!

    [Reply]

Freddie reply on August 25th, 2008:

Fine Clark, I didn’t really want to be on your stinking team anyway! LOL!

That’s cool. Rewarding the long time readers would be a great way to go. They have been with you since the start. I can respect that.

So, I need a team if anyone wants to have me. I have some decent web skills, can write content, my wife is hot also, my favorite color is green, have an MBA, own offine appraisal business, and I am willing to learn what ever is necessary to make this happen and be a great teammate.

    Pick me up!

Clark was sneaky and drafted me on Skype before I even had a chance to see what was going on. He blindsided me with promises of blog flipping riches and vague details of a blog flipping contest.

Now that I have seen the monster of a competition that he has created, I am at odds with what I have done, having agreed to do battle with you all.

You’re all my friends, but once my flippin’ boots are on, I will have to take your money. No hard feelings, I hope.

    Let’s do this!

Most of you don’t know me here…but Bryan can vouch for my track record in flipping. I think I still hold the 30 day record for a flip (which sold for $4,500 on Sitepoint). So when I play, I play for real.

I’m only accepting teammates with vaginas, lots of beer, or other forbidden perks, so if you’re interested, let me know. Email address you can reach me at is: seonoobs [at] gmail [dot] com

    Introducing - The A-Team

    Team background:

In 2008, a crack blogging unit was sent to prison by a military ICANN court for a blogging spam crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the blogosphere underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as bloggers of fortune.

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team. /cue A-Team intro

  55. Big Blogger Says:

    Let’s speak frankly

I would love to take part of this contest, because from the inside you learn a lot more than from the outside. It’s only doing and failing that you improve.

On the other side I’m too busy to lead my own team. I’m looking for a team where I can help, but not be a fundamental contributor.

In case your Team before the end of the subscription time hasn’t found five members - rather than to be uncomplete - DROP ME A MAIL (ottantaventi AT gmail DOT com): I’ll be happy to provide my help.

Just in case you want to know something more about me:

my name is Alexander, I’m german but from age 8 I grew up in Venezia (Italy) where I still live.

I run an italian blog (the Google translated version is here) and a new english one. I’ve done a few MFA blogs, but never sold a site.

Any chance of team captains posting confirmed teams so far, or something to let the newcomers know if there are any spaces going anywhere? Come on Bryan…sort it out

    [Reply]

  57. Girish Says:

We haven’t officially decided on a captain yet but here’s our team (tentative)

    Girish (me)
    Sean
    Reid
    Mark (he may opt out)

Right now, we have one empty spot but Mark isn’t sure about whether he’ll participate or not due to real-life commitments, so we might just have another opening.

If you do want to apply, e-mail me at girish @ slamboosh.com with some info about yourself and we’ll take it from that point onwards

  58. Bryan Clark Says:

Can I be on multiple teams? If so, I’d like to join everyone’s team and make a cut of 5-10 blog sales, plus be a part of the winning team guaranteed. I think that’s my plan.

The A-team is gonna whoop everyone….

Does it have to be a BLOG flip? Or can it be a site flip? I know that most will go with blog, but can the option be open for other types of sites? I noticed you don’t just sell blogs, most are, but not all…
