Alright guys and girls, domains are registered.  Working on getting all the sites onto my hosting account, and then it’s go time.  So for those of you that are watching, contest has begun.  We’ll call the official time 4:30 pm Central Time.

I’ll be updating this blog page and my twitter account randomly throughout the day.  So check back!

The 5 domains are -

http://superebayprofits.com

http://yogafitnessblog.com

http://rockstaronlinedating.com

http://gogreenweblog.com

http://myhardbody.com

Oh, and it’d be super appreciated (since I have limited time) if any of you are actually checking on the domains at random points, can you please update everyone else by leaving a comment?  It’ll keep me from having to do it, as I don’t have a lot of time here!  So, if you see that one is almost ready, or that I’m done with one, or even that the header is installed… let someone know!

Well…I’m done reading your entire blog! I started late last night and picked it up again when I woke up at noon.

Very valuable stuff. (in theory, now time for practice) The value goes on into the comments as well!

Good luck with the 24 hour flips.

    P.S. Good luck.

    Alright - Quick update…

I’m working on my eBay niche site. The writer is a bum and didn’t get the content to me in time, so I’m starting with that one so that I can get the hard one out of the way. I’ve got 3 articles up so far, and I think they are of a pretty high quality, but eBay is a pretty easy subject to write about since I used to be an avid user.

As far as eBooks, and niche research, don’t really have time to get into that right now. Can you guys wait a bit and I’ll do a post on it next week?

Joshua from Debt Aim reply on August 22nd, 2008:

Of course man….. you shouldnt have even responded with that long of a comment, IMO. You have 5 whole sites to build.

The ebay one looks awesome, and those are some good articles for being banged out quickly…

The yoga one is in a refresh loading loop…. and the rest arent up as i write this…. But yah, the ebay one is definitely worth $200. =)

  7. Bryan Clark Says:

The ebay one is done. I’m skipping the sales page, because this one put me behind schedule. I’ll offer to create one in the future for the new owner in the auction. I’m having server issues on several of the sites off and on, including the ebay one which contributed to me falling behind… supposedly propogating servers. Hope it’s fixed soon of I don’t have a chance.

Moving on to the next one!

    Go Clark Go!

    Update!

As of 11 pm central time, the ebay site is about 90-95% done and the Yoga fitness blog has all 10 articles posted in the New Fresh Theme. There is no logo or side bar in it.

My thoughts so far. - Clark is doing a wonderful job, imo. I am a newbie to all of this, but the eBay site looks wonderful to me. I think it has a chance of the $200 bench mark.

Someone mentioned in the comments yesterday that one site may sell for more than the rest and make up the slack. I think it is going to be the Yoga site. First of all, I am really surprised that YogaFitnessBlog.com was available being that it is such a popular topic. Second, it really seems like it is going to be nice. It has that Zen feel to it.

Cannot wait to see the rest Clark….and yes, I got my eye on the site for when you drop the info on the eBooks with resale rights for your niches.

Awesome sites and job so far!

    Clark,

You are amazing! Those sites are off the chain. I cannot believe it! Wow! Did I mention that I am blown away? No! Well, I am blown away!

I have been dragging my wife to the computer to follow this because I cannot believe it and secretly, I know she believes my desires of being an Internet marketer is some bullchit! LOL! I am pushing forward anyway!

But after watching this on your site, PB, SuiteJ, and my man Joe, she is really coming around, so thank you all.

Now for my thoughts: (& I want to be a little critical since everyone is being really nice.)

    eBay Site

Sweet! I don’t have anything critical to say, so I will echo what everyone else is saying, “I love it!” Particularly, I like the pricing of the eBook. I believe it gives the site more value than the $5 book you sold on your example. This is strengthened by the professionalism and pop of the website. Well done, Clark!

Also, your wording on the sitepoint posting is incredible. Hell, I almost put a bid in, seriously! If I know anything about eBay, I would have been on it. You really made it seem like a no brainer. And putting the link to the other sites you sold as an example was great. But, putting the fact that one sold for $1,500 after 30 days and pointing out that the buyer could buy this for a few hundred, add some post, wait 30 days, and sell it for a serious profit….BRILLIANT!

    Yoga Fitness

I got to be honest, I am a little disappointed in this site. It has such a zen, calm feel to it, then the logo blows it for me. Not really sure where to give any suggestions, but I guess I was expecting more from it since it was the one that guess would sell for the most.

I love the ebook graphic. It is really on point and stands out. Solid pics on the post as well.

    Rockstar Online Dating

I really like this one. I must admit that I was surprised that I liked it. Think it has a lot to do with the logo. I am feeling that one waaaaayyyy more than the Yoga one. The color scheme works as well.

YOu don’t have a price on that ebook like the rest. Any reason for that?

Also, I like how the pages at the top are the Categories of the post. This is great and I will be adapting this for my site. I was wondering what pages to create and this is better than anything I came up with. Besides, it makes the site dynamic without going back and constantly making changes, which is what it is all about. More effect with less work. Sweet, that is on all of the sites and I am just noticing.

    Go Green Weblog

I am officially changing my selection. I think this site will sell for the most now. I absolutely love the ebook. With gas prices being a billion dollars a gallon, this site and book should draw a lot of attention.

Please note, that I have not done any niche research on which one is the hottest and, more importantly, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO THIS!!! Hint, hint Clark, spill the beans…or at least tell me or I will come to your site and ask everyday until you do. LOL! Just messing with…you hope!

Back to my review. Very clean, very professional layout. Simple logo that works and the color scheme involves green, which I think is expected by anyone that is visiting the site.

I think you should move the Home & About page above the logo. It looks kind of strange just floating above the Catagory links, imo. Don’t use a colored bar or it will detract from the logo. Just have them float like the News feed and comments in the upper right corner.

If you don’t like that idea, maybe change the bar color that it is on now. Try a brown that looks like the dirt. That way the grass would be growing out of the dirt.

In fact, there is a basic wordpress theme that does this and it looks great. I am not saying use that them, but the picture idea would be perfect. Just throwing out what is on my mind.

    My Hard Body
Ok, I must admit that gay site would have been a nice niche as Neal & Nick says. LOL!

Nevertheless, this a great site. I think that I really like the theme used for the Go Green and this one, so maybe I am bias.

I noticed that the logo that appears in the address bar is the “R” of the Rockstar site. In fact, the “R” is on the Ebay, Go Green, and the Hard Body sites, so you may want to change that.

You used the same concept for the Home and About buttons on this site as the Go Green, but changed the background color that they site on. It works. That is what I was talking about or suggesting on the last site.

I like the videos that you used on all of them. Nice touch!

    Overall:

Great work, Clark! Get them posted and let the bidding begin. When I started this post, the bidding for the eBay site was up to $75, it’s still there. And that is the only site posted I believe or I didn’t see a link to another one.

Nevertheless Clark, I am thoroughly impressed with your work!

I know, not too critical, but hey I gave it a shot! Right?

    Not bad for a newbie!

    [Reply]

Bryan Clark reply on August 23rd, 2008:

Whoa! Blown away by the level of detail in that comment. And I have to admit, you are right on the money on most of the critiques. However, after 16 hours of straight work, I think I started to fade a bit at the end. I still haven’t had a chance to get any sleep, but I’m headed that way now. By the time I get up, my deadline will technically be over, and I want to give this as fair of a shot as I can. So, flaws and all, we’ll just have to see what happens. I’ve never come close to building 5 sites in a day, in fact, I’ve never sold a single site that I built in 24 hours. This is new territory for me, and I definitely started to feel the strain towards the end of it.

Hopefully I’ll still get a good price.

My other critique that I would make against myself is that I used the same sales copy in all the auctions. This isn’t something that I’d normally do, but I’m way beyond tired and really don’t have the energy to write 5 different sales letters.

I’m a bit nervous, and I would have been pretty comfortable with this bet had I had 48 hours instead.

    We’ll just have to see.

And as for your internet marketing dream, keep at it. I’m living proof that it’s possible. I started to make a full time living online in under 6 months with no prior experience and I’m pulling in a 5 figure month here and there now. Those that have been with me since the beginning can vouch for my complete lack of knowledge when I started in June of 2007. Now, it all seems to come easy. Once you break that magical $10,000 mark in monthly income, you start to realize just how easy it is to repeat it. My problem isn’t the ability to make the money, lately it’s the desire. I’ve become more content with making 5-8k a month and enjoying more free time than I’ve ever had, than working hard to break 10k every month.

I agree with everyone - the sites are terrific and I’m blown away by the early high bids. Great job, Bryan!!!

I’m trying to see what sets your “made in a day” sites apart from mine. (aside from obvious niche selection) So here’s my question - I notice that your blogs don’t look very “bloggy.” It’s more like a website using WP as your framework.

    Is that on purpose?

I know there are some other differences (how you worded your auction vs how I worded mine, niche, etc) - but this is something that really seems to stick out to me and I’m not sure if that’s a big reason your sites are doing so much better.

The site I’m selling on SP right now is stuck at 51.00 and it’s a PR2 (URL is up there in my sig) - just trying to learn from the experience and see what I can do better and be more Clark-like. Must channel my inner Clark…

    [Reply]

Freddie reply on August 23rd, 2008:

No disrespect, but are you looking at Clark’s design next to yours?

Take away the niche research, which I have no clue how to do yet, his site design is superior. He is giving away the resell rights of a quality ebook (assuming it is quality) that goes with each site, in addition to having a track record of sites that sell for more than a few hundred dollars.

I like your site and believe it has some real potential, but there is an obvious difference between those that he is selling in yours….or mine for that matter.

    Quality material Clark, quality!

Bryan Clark reply on August 23rd, 2008:

You know Marceia, the site is pretty good. But a few tips that would help you in future auctions…

    1. Pictures. People like posts with pictures as it adds visual appeal. Plus, since you are selling a recipe site, it makes sense to assume people would like to see what they are eating.

    2. While I don’t think that you necessarily need a magazine theme, the theme you are using isn’t right for this type of site. That’s not to say it’s a bad theme, but some themes just don’t fit the type of site that you are trying to portray.

And just to touch on the magazine theme quickly. I used them because they make these sites look pretty professional. It’s the look of a static website, with the functionality of a blog. Buyers eat that stuff up.!

Amazing work. And that is not even talking about the time constraint you had on these. So far so good, good luck for winning the bet.

I have tried my hand at this now and decided I would, research a niche, buy a domain, build a worthwhile site, fill it with meaningful quality content, even monetize it and now it sits on sitepoint as well. Kind of a case study from a first timers point of view.

Unlike you I am sure I made a bunch of mistakes, but honestly I can see how with hard work, experience and some powerful tools you can definitely make some money in this market. Good Luck!

    [Reply]

Bryan Clark reply on August 23rd, 2008:

Thanks Ben, and I made several mistakes too. Towards the end of this building process, the quality became less and less apparent. Now, if I had it to do over again, I might do TWO sites of extremely high quality.

    [Reply]

  42. Marceia Says:

    @ Greg - Thanks, man!

@ Freddie - no disrespect taken. It was an honest question on my part and a good answer on yours. I didn’t think my design was great, but I didn’t think it was horrible either. It’s obviously a free WP template that I’m using, so nothing special.

Bryan’s design is much cleaner than mine and absolutely superior. My question, however, was less about the QUALITY of design, though. My question is really about layout. My site LOOKS like a blog. At least I think so. Bryan’s sites look like a website. If you didn’t know it was a WP blog, you’d be none the wiser.

THAT’S my question. Is that part of his evil master plan - don’t sell a “blog” per se - sell a website? If it happens to be created using WP, then great, but make it LOOK like a website.

I’m here just like the rest of us - trying to put the clues together to make more bucks on the same amount of work. And learning from someone that has the answers.

I don’t think it is a matter of disguising a blog as a website as much as it is that Bryan and others realize Wordpress is a very capable and flexible CMS.

The wide assortment of themes available enable the owner to showcase his/her content in the most efficient or appropriate way possible.

For a traditional chronological “blog” with regular updates a blog theme or look is perfect. While there are nuggets of information in the archives, the author usually wants the main focus on the most recent posts.

But the recent trend of magazine style themes are great for showcasing a lot of content on the homepage with eye pleasing images. Take a look at Freddie’s site which uses a derivative of the Mimbo theme I used on my skin care blog/site. There is a whole whack of content on the front page. Proper use of the excerpt field, which the theme uses heavily, will help him to rank in the SE’s for those topics. Furthermore by changing the date field in new posts he can continue to add content to those categories without pushing a “valuable” article off the front page. Meanwhile the rest of the page can be updated and stay fresh.

Bryan’s new Hard Body site is another example where this is a good fit and works well. If the them of the site was “my personal journey to a hard body” then a more traditional blog look would be a better choice. Wordpress is just that flexible.

A magazine style theme on your site with pictures of the recipes you have posted would dramatically increase your sale price.

I hope I am not out of place saying all this in Bryan’s comments.

@ Marceia - Glad you didn’t take it as disrespect and agree, your site doesn’t look bad at all! Now I understand your question better about the blog versus website and Greg seemed to have nailed it on the head, so I will just say refer to his comments.

Greg’s idea of moving to a magazine theme will take your site to the next level, especially because you have some quality content on there. You should look into it.

Google search these themes and see what you think: Mimbo magazine, Bradford magazine, & Arthemia magazine

    You will thank yourself!

@ Greg - Thanks for the kind words on my site. The various of the Mimbo Theme I am using is called Bradford Magazine. I just love it for the flexibility you mentioned and the image placement on the front page.

IWP was a physical magazine until we moved it to the web as a “Magazine blog” about 1 1/2 months ago. So the use of the magazine theme was excellent for us. Honestly, had I known Wordpress was so easy to use and manipulate I would have been here a year ago. Believe it or not, I was using Blogger up until then. Was I in the dark!

    Greg’s Comment

Greg you said about my site, “Proper use of the excerpt field, which the theme uses heavily, will help him to rank in the SE’s for those topics. ”

Can you elaborate or shoot me a private message on how to use this excerpt field to my advantage? PM if you feel you should share on Clark’s website, but I am sure the readers want to know! Needless to say, if I can move up in the search rankings for my terms I WILL BE IN BUSINESS!!!!!

    2nd Comment

Greg said, “Furthermore by changing the date field in new posts he can continue to add content to those categories without pushing a “valuable” article off the front page. Meanwhile the rest of the page can be updated and stay fresh.”

Wow! If I could figure that out, that would be great as well, but I am a little lost on this one.

    Thank you for the assistance!

I won’t hijack Bryan’s post by going into more detail here in the comments. Bryan has worked very hard to provide a “hands on” example of what is possible in just 24 hours and I think the comments should stay on topic.

If you put a “contact” link on your site I will send you an email. I will also copy in Bryan on what I send in case he wants to use any of that material in a future magazine theme post.

If Clark answered already, I couldn’t find it, so please send the info.

oo, that last sentence sounded harsh once I re-read it. It wasn’t meant that way. I meant to say I am just here to learn from all of you and Bryan and I think we all see BC as the guy with the answers.

    thanks Greg,

I’m working more to fit theme with site - not just in column layout (2 column vs 3 column, etc) but also like you said (magazine vs personal vs site).

definitely a learning curve. Thanks for your insight. this is the 2nd theme I’ve used on this site and it’s a definite evolution. I’ll keep learning!

    thanks all!

    Online Dating - $51

    Total = $431

Closing in on the halfway mark and it is still the first day!

Thanks for the update Freddie, and to all of you out there for following along!

Sorry for those of you that subscribe to my comments, I like to answer questions individually. So it’s not uncommon for me to send your email subscriptions into a tizzy by offering up individual responses in the comment fields.

    UPDATE!

Well, looks like I’ve got more work to do. Apparently, on two of the sites they have articles that are being flagged for duplicate content on Copyscape. I’ll have to go re-write those, and that’s the last thing I feel like doing right now. Can’t I just get a day off?

That’s what you get for dealing with freelancers most of the time though. 90% of the time they either miss the deadline, or turn in duplicate content, or both. So, I’ll rewrite the articles in question, and hopefully no new one’s pop up. I don’t have the energy for this today.

You might want to up the “Buy Now” amount for My Hard Body. First day and it is already at $175, you have the buy now at $250.

Just a thought. Someone had commented that one of your sites would sell for much more than another. Looks like this is going to be true and you may get much more for that one.

    Watching closely, Freddie!

BTW, my 8 year old son thinks you are awesome. He said, “Daddy, you should build and sell some sites as well.”

LOL! Funny, but that is exactly what I am thinking!
