Ahoy!

« on: September 20, 2008, 05:52:45 AM »

Hey everyone,

My name's Kane - I am a freelance multimedia designer & student, and I've recently taken an interest in site flipping (along with Phil)! I must admit however, I haven't started on any blogs yet but should be very soon!

On September 8th I set up http://imagebash.com. This was basically an experiment of mine to see how PPC ads worked and what kind of revenue (if any!) I could make from them. Obviously revenue wise, it has worked out to be very minimal so far with adbrite (literally about 20cents a day). Having been going for just under 2 weeks - I have had 3945 unique visitors to date and an average of 253 visitors a day. As for backlinks, I do only use 2 main sources for promotion, and thats about 80% of my traffic.

This is all very well, but to get these figures I need to promote the site everyday (I use forums). I'm thinking of selling it sometime next month and starting a first blog flip.

So here's the all important questions... What kind of a price would I be looking at selling this? and more importantly do you think it would sell? I've heard image hosting sites aren't the best choice when it comes to selling them.

Thanks for the quality info. I hope to make some beer money via site flipping when I get back to uni! Oh, and if anyone has PHP, HTML, Flash issues, or require design help for banners/logos etc - I may be able to help! Portfolio (http://bombfish.com)

Awesome portfolio.  Looks outstanding!

As far as your image host, sorry to say that it's really a crapshoot.  You never know how much these are going to sell for.

Yeah, I kind of expected that to be honest! Oh well - I guess I'll give it a shot at selling, hopefully I'll break-even at least, heh!

Glad you like the portfolio! I do good rates against other designers being a poor student!

Looking forward to the blueprint.

Hi, Kane:

First let me say, i digg your avatar. Second, i see you know about my image host as you left a comment on my G34 Media blog post announcing the sale.

My advice to you is when the site is ready, list it, and see what happens. It may sell, it may not. But give it a good go and see. I do like the domain name, by the way.

Do come back here, and tell us the results. I'm interested to follow how it goes.

Missy.

P.S. Are you nice and cheap with your banner work? I always need some for my flips. Let me know. Holla.

Yeah good luck with your host as well Missy. Hope it'll sell for you!

As for banner designing... I guess I'd charge £10-£30 *CONVERTS* $20-$50 depending on whether you want flash or not etc. This is open to negotiation.

Another quick question - I can do all the database back up shizz, but for transferring domain names... is it a case of redirecting the name servers and then changing the registrar at the other end?

The way i do it, is i push the domain to them via the registrar dashboard, then buyer can update nameserver on his/her end.

I use namecheap, which do you use?

At the moment I use Bluehost - As it is cheaper via my hosting account! But I guess the main vibe is to use GoDaddy looking at Sitepoint!

Update on site: Haven't put site up for auction yet, Will be next week when I'm intoxicated (back at Uni).
